Novaled is developing RGB colour OLED layer structures incorporating doping technology developed at the IAPP. The inherent low operating voltage opens up possibilities for low-power driving circuitry and novel OLED layout, Novaled said.

The key factors in second generation OLEDs are low operating voltage and higher power efficiency due to the incorporation of doped charge carrier transport layers, and efficient in-line manufacturing, the company said.

The doping technology allows the OLED structure to become almost independent of substrate properties, according to the company. Thus, it is possible to incorporate high efficiency and long lifetime OLEDs on nearly any substrate, from glass to printed circuit boards, Novaled claimed.

The course can normally be completed in 4 to 6 hours and covers methodology, language usage and a comparison of SystemC to C++. It teaches syntax and usage of SystemC elements including channels, modules, data types, processes and interfaces.

A section on modeling describes different levels, including transaction level, timed functional and RTL modeling, as well as testbench development. The training considers SystemC in the context of an overall tool flow.

LONDON — The market for CDMA chipsets is about to get much tougher for incumbents such as Qualcomm with the announcement today (15th May, 2003) that Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics have joined forces to offer ICs for cdma2000 handsets based on technology developed in conjunction with Nokia.

ST and TI will market the devices to handset manufacturers worldwide for cdma2000 1X and 1xEV-DV (1x Evolution for Data and Voice) handsets. This technology has been incorporated in the Nokia-specific chipset used in its cdma2000 1X phones, and next generations of this technology will be used in Nokia-specific chipsets for future 1xEV-DV handsets.

TI and ST are uniting elements of their respective technologies into a portfolio of ICs forming CDMA chipsets which target multiple market segments and present handset manufacturers with flexibility and choice through open hardware interfaces, including interfaces to RF subsystems and application processors. Also included is an open Application Programming Interface (API) that will facilitate customization of products.

The complete CDMA chipset, developed jointly with or licensed from Nokia, will include an analog baseband/power management chip, a digital baseband chip, associated protocol software, RF chips and reference designs. The compnaies will provide development and testing tools, as well as support, for their respective ICs.

Samples of the cdma2000 1X chipset are expected next quarter, and those for 1xEV-DV during 2004.
