MUNICH, Germany — Software vendor QNX and chip manufacturer Freescale have agreed to cooperate on the development of next-generation telematics, infotainment and multimedia applications.

The cooperation extends on Freescale's recently introduced MPC5121e processor, which QNX plans to support with its real-time operating systems. Both companies announced to jointly develop a board support package aiming at boosting the development of telematics applications.

In addition, QNX will offer a package of software and hardware products to graduates of its OEM Innovation Labs (OIL) Program. The package includes QNX' Momentics development tools, the Neutrino real-time operating system and access to several middleware products including the source code of these products.

Within the scope of the cooperation, Freescale also supports the OIL program by donating its current hardware, the company said.

The Freescale move follows a similar agreement QNX recently closed with processor vendor ARM, targeting at the same group of applications.

New options extend the frequency range of Rohde & Schwarz's R&S SMF100A microwave signal generator to 43.5 GHz at the high end and down as low as 100 kHz.

To compensate for power losses due to cable attenuation and transfer impedance, the R&S SMF100A also offers an output power of up to +26 dBm (at 20 GHz).

The SMF100A is targeted at the aerospace and defense sector as well as manufacturers of microwave modules and components who demand a highly precise, flexible signal source covering a wide frequency range.

The SMF100A is an ideal signal source for mixer measurements. It replaces local oscillators of high-level mixers directly without requiring an additional amplifier, which significantly simplifies the test setup and reduces costs.

The office is located in Zelenograd, about 45 km (about 28 miles) from Moscow, and is recognized as the center of the Russian semiconductor industry with a rapidly growing number of startups. The office will serve as a center of excellence for Cadence virtual CAD services (VCAD).

The VCAD business model helps companies accelerate design productivity by providing methodology and design expertise, intellectual property and training for design teams.

We are very excited to be part of the growing ecosystem in Zelenograd,” Wolf-Ekkehard Matzke, Cadence Fellow in charge of its business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said in a statement.

By opening an office in Zelenograd, Cadence is demonstrating its determination to be an integral part of our innovation ecosystem,” added Gennady Krasnikov, general director of JSC Mikron, a leading Russian fab and one of the two largest semiconductor fabs in Zelenograd.
